The Big City

Synopsis

This film is certainly one of the best African productions on the theme of slavery. One of the pioneers of African cinema, Mahama Traoré, better known as Johnson, paints a rigorous and impartial picture of the slave trade. This impartiality offers us a face that has been unknown to us until now, unknown to this dark page of humanity. Against a backdrop of jazz and the rhythms and blues of the 1960s, the director also opens a window on the evils that mimic Dakar 10 years after his independence.
